Tottenham transfer news: Nabil Bentaleb open to returning to Tottenham
Nabil Bentaleb is one of the stars for Bundesliga giants Schalke. The 24-year-old left Tottenham to join the Royal Blues three years ago and has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Germany.
The Algerian was speaking to the Independent where he revealed his injury problems and why he decided to leave Spurs.
The interview adds that Bentaleb was one of the players that did well under Mauricio Pochettino in his first season, but injuries affected the second campaign.
The rise of midfielders such as Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele reduced his opportunities of playing and he left on loan to Schalke before signing permanently.
Bentaleb added that he made mistakes during his time at Spurs, but it was all a learning curve. The midfielder also revealed he had a bit of an argument with Pochettino when he didn’t get to play:
“I got injured and when I came back, I wanted to play so bad that I had some arguments [with Pochettino]. I was a little bit frustrated, and I was learning basically. Being on the bench is a learning curve.”
Pochettino wants the best for the players
The Algerian admitted that the boss only wanted the best for him and he doesn’t have any problems with the Argentine.
The 24-year-old was pleased with the progress that Spurs have made under Pochettino and was open to a return to the club:
“I would be a hypocrite to say that I would not like to be there, and I am not a hypocrite. But this is football.”
