Latest Tottenham news: Tottenham confirm visit to Shanghai and Singapore in July

Tottenham will visit Singapore and Shanghai in July with the Straits Times claiming this would be part of the International Champions Cup tournament next year.

A release from the club claimed this was part of the centennial celebrations for our partner AIA (h/t Straits Times):

“We are delighted to announce that the first team squad will travel to Singapore and Shanghai as part of our pre-season tour in July in preparation for the 2019/20 season.

“The tour will also enable us to join in the Centennial celebrations of our Global Principal Partner, AIA, whose roots trace back to Shanghai in 1919.”

The release added that the club would be playing in both cities and would give supporters of the club a chance to see the stars up close.

More teams visiting Singapore

Tottenham and Manchester United are set to feature in the games at Singapore, according to the report. Inter Milan and Juventus are the two other clubs that are being looked into.

This isn’t the first time Spurs have visited Asia. We played against the national side in 1995 and have visited other Asian cities as part of the Premier League Asia Trophy.

Pre-season for this campaign saw us visit the United States in the International Champions Cup, and we did pretty well defeating Roma and Inter Milan while losing to Barcelona on penalties.

The Asian trip certainly will be a boost for the fans from that region, and it will be interesting to see if we bring any new faces to Singapore too.
