Latest Tottenham news: Davinson Sanchez reveals Barcelona were amongst several clubs interested in him

Davinson Sanchez wasn’t the cheapest signing under Mauricio Pochettino but the Colombian has proved his ability for Tottenham since joining from Ajax.

The 22-year-old is one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League, and is developing into one of the best centre-backs thanks to his time under the Argentine.

The Colombian joined from Ajax, however, the defender spoke about the interest from several clubs during his time with Nacional.

The youngster had won several trophies with Nacional and rejected a move to the Catalans in favour of the Dutch giants (h/t Mirror):

“Barcelona wanted me to play for their B team.

“But I wanted to stay and win the Copa Libertadores and after that I didn’t want to go down to a B team.”

The defender added that he believed in his qualities and wanted first-team football, something that Ajax were willing to provide.

The Colombian added that a couple of other La Liga clubs also wanted him before Barcelona came calling.

“It wasn’t just Barcelona that wanted me either. When I was 17 Sevilla came for me. At 18 Valencia, at 19 Villarreal before Barcelona.”

Sanchez didn’t start his career as a defender

The Colombian that he didn’t start his career as a centre-back and was actually a midfielder. However, there was a ton of competition and the youngster would only get game-time for the U20s if he played as a central defender.
