Latest Tottenham news: Mauricio Pochettino could apologise to referee after Burnley outburst
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed he could apologise to referee Mike Dean after his outburst at the end of the Burnley game.
Spurs lost the tie 2-1 despite Harry Kane scoring on his return to the first-team. Pochettino was seen remonstrating after Burnley’s first goal which came from a disputable corner.
Speaking after the game to the BBC, Pochettino said:
“I made a mistake.”.
The Argentine added that he knew how important the game was and should have taken some time to cool down:
“I should have gone to the dressing room and got some water. A stupid thing happens and you react. Maybe I will go and apologise to the referee.”
The manager further claimed that the game was lost due to their mistakes and the team should have done better.
A big chance to cut the lead gone
Pochettino added that this was a big chance lost by the team to cut the gap to the top and claimed it questions our title credentials.
“I said this game was key and that if we didn’t win we cannot think we are a real contender [for the Premier League title].”
Liverpool play Manchester United and could drop points in the tie while Manchester City aren’t in Premier League competition this weekend due to their Carabao Cup exploits.
Tottenham had chances to score but this was a poor performance given how much pressure we could have put on the top-two.
