Latest Tottenham news: England legend Sir Geoff Hurst believes Harry Kane will break Alan Shearer’s Premier League record
Harry Kane returned to the Spurs starting XI in the tie against Burnley. The England captain was expected to be out till March when he picked up an ankle injury against Manchester United.
However, the Tottenham striker has a history of recovering from injuries quickly and he had a role to play in the game by scoring our equaliser in the second half.
Tottenham could not hold on for the point and lost the tie 2-1, however, Kane’s remarkable goal scoring feat continues as the forward now has 20 goals in all competitions for Spurs this season.
Kane has been our top scorer for several seasons, and Sir Geoff Hurst shared his views on what the Tottenham star could achieve in his career (h/t Football.london):
“I consider Harry Kane to be the best English striker in years, probably since Alan Shearer. However, Sergio Aguero has played on the big stage for longer than Harry, and has scored more Premier League goals, so Aguero just shades it for me at the moment.”
The England captain will break many records
The England legend further claimed that Kane would overtake Aguero for goals scored in the Premier League and believed the Tottenham star could even break the Premier League scoring record.
“He could even break Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League record. He’ll reach Sergio’s level purely by continuing to perform consistently and scoring 20 to 25-plus goals every season.”
Kane certainly has the potential to become a legend in the game and he also proved his ability on the biggest stage by winning the Golden Boot in this summer’s World Cup.
