Tottenham transfer news: Dimitar Berbatov believes Gareth Bale is too expensive for Tottenham

Former Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov shared his thoughts regarding Gareth Bale and Spurs’ possible reunion.

Berbatov spoke to Betfair (h/t AS) and claimed that Bale gets blamed for almost everything that goes wrong at Real Madrid.

The Bulgarian further claimed that the former Spurs winger was performing for Los Galacticos this season, but still was the whipping boy.

Berbatov then suggested that a player should move if he isn’t appreciated:

“And, as a player, if you don’t feel appreciated, then you have to move on.”

Tottenham would find it difficult to afford him

The former striker added that he would find it difficult for Spurs to pay over the odds for Bale, however, he would be happy to see him return to the London club:

“It’s a question of money first of course – I’m not sure Spurs can afford over £100m on a player.

“But Bale is a world-class talent who could play for anyone and it would be great to see him back.”

The 29-year-old Bale has had his fitness issues at Madrid and even in a season where things have not gone right for the Spanish giants, the Welshman has 12 goals and four assists from all competitions.

The winger would be a quality addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s side, however, Berbatov is right in suggesting we would not pay a crazy amount for one player.

Spurs are close to moving to a new stadium and haven’t signed one player for two transfer windows.

Pochettino has done a great job in keeping us competitive but we need to invest in the side or we could get left behind by some of our rivals.
