Latest Tottenham news: Mauricio Pochettino charged by FA over Mike Dean altercation
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has been charged with improper conduct after reacting angrily and confronting referee Mike Dean post the 2-1 loss to Burnley on Saturday.
The Argentine was visibly angry with the referee after full-time and the FA released a statement claiming the manager’s language and/or behaviour amounted to improper conduct (h/t Guardian):
“It is alleged the manager’s language and/or behaviour at the end of the 2-1 defeat – both on the pitch and in or around the tunnel area – amounted to improper conduct.”
There have been repercussions for Dean too with the referee replaced in the Chelsea-Tottenham clash in midweek.
Dean will keep his fourth official’s role for the next round of fixtures and be on the touchline at the Etihad for Manchester City’s clash against West Ham.
The Guardian claims that this move was taken to ensure another exchange does not take place between the Spurs manager and Dean.
Surprising behaviour from the manager
The report adds that the Argentine has till 28 February to respond and it will be interesting to see what could be the punishment for his transgression.
Pochettino isn’t someone who has been on the wrong side of the officials, and hopefully, he gets a fine for his behaviour.
Jurgen Klopp has had his run-ins with the FA this season but hasn’t received a touchline ban even after having a go against the referee after the 1-1 draw against West Ham.

The Spurs manager later claimed that he could apologise to Dean and admitted he might have crossed the line (h/t Guardian).
