Latest Tottenham news: Mauricio Pochettino believes Tottenham’s title could be 10 years away
Mauricio Pochettino was not happy after Tottenham’s surprise 2-1 defeat at the hands of Burnley.
The Argentine argued with the referee at the end of the game, and is expected to receive some form of punishment for the altercation.
The loss also gave some breathing room to Manchester City and Liverpool as we could not cut the gap to the top two.
However, Pochettino has dug deeper into these issues, and called out the mentality of the team (h/t Sky Sports):
“If you want to be a real contender, playing well or not, it’s (the game against Burnley) a must-win.
“You need to show you are fighting for big things and I am frustrated because we didn’t show the same energy as Burnley, the same attitude as Burnley, the same ambition as Burnley.”
The Argentine added that the team needs to look at themselves before suggesting fixing this could take 10 years.
“It is holding us back and it might take five years’ work, 10 years’ work to change that.”
Tottenham ready for the big games
Pochettino added that they have no problems facing some of the big clubs and claimed if the same motivation is not present in other ties, then the team doesn’t deserve anything.
The manager added that it is impossible to think about winning titles if Spurs cannot defeat sides like Burnley.
Pochettino further said that it is difficult to win the title not because of City or Liverpool being better but the problems in the current team.
