Latest Tottenham news: Mauricio Pochettino reiterates Spurs could play in new stadium this season

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino revealed that Daniel Levy told the Argentine that the team could play at the new stadium this season.

Speaking prior to the game against Chelsea, Pochettino shared the good news (h/t Football.london):

“Today I saw Daniel and he’s very positive, hopefully yes we can play before the end of the season.”

The manager was then reminded of his earlier gut feeling being that the team wouldn’t play in the new home this season, the Argentine claimed the rescheduling of Crystal Palace’s FA Cup tie has helped:

“Yes still I think it’s going to be tough but I think with Palace going through in the FA Cup and we changed the game and that makes us more positive to believe that we move before the end of the season.”

The report adds that the stadium is going through the final stages of testing in the safety system.

Testing dates for events are close

Football.london adds that Spurs have to conduct two tests at the new ground with increasing capacities.

The report adds that 16 March and 30 March are the dates for the tests to be held before targeting the Premier League clash against Brighton or Huddersfield as our stadium opener.

The world-class venue was expected to open in September, but there have been several delays that have pushed the dates back.

It would be great to play some games at the new ground this season before we start the next campaign with a bang.

Spurs haven’t done poorly at Wembley this season, but the national stadium has never felt like home or the old White Hart Lane.
