Tottenham transfer news: Rafael van der Vaart claims moving to Tottenham would be good for Gareth Bale

Gareth Bale isn’t having a great season for Real Madrid with just 13 goals in all competitions this season.

The Welshman was signed from Tottenham but has found starts hard to come by under new manager Santiago Solari.

The Daily Star reports that Bale was brought on against Levante and scored the winning penalty. However, the Welshman didn’t celebrate due to a lack of playing time.

The report adds that Bale is contracted to Madrid till 2022 but many Premier League sides are keeping tabs on his situation at the Spanish giants.

Former Spurs star weighs in on the situation

Rafael van der Vaart, the former Tottenham star, spoke to Cadena Ser (h/t Daily Star) and was surprised at the situation before speaking about the pressure of playing for Madrid:

“I am a little surprised at what is happening at Real Madrid with Gareth Bale.

“He is a very good player, he is not Cristiano or Messi, he is not regular, he always plays well and there is more pressure than at Tottenham. I think that’s a problem for him.”

The Dutchman claimed that going to another club could see the Welshman succeed, but he believed Bale wants to remain at the Spanish giants.

However, Van der Vaart was open to seeing Bale join a Premier League club and also named a rival as a destination:

“But a team like United or a return to Tottenham could be better for him because people in England are different to those in Spain.”

The Welshman would be a decent addition to Spurs and hopefully, he is available on the cheap in the transfer window.
