Latest Tottenham news: Harry Kane could be banned for headbutting Cesar Azpilicueta
The Metro reports that Harry Kane could be banned for the weekend’s clash against Arsenal after headbutting Cesar Azpilicueta in the 2-0 loss to Chelsea.
The Tottenham star clashed with the Chelsea defender as David Luiz played peacemaker, and the report claims that should referee Andre Marriner note that he did not see the incident in the review, action could be taken.
The report adds that Kane could face a three-match ban for the incident. The England captain was a little lucky considering that Azpilicueta didn’t make a meal of the incident.
Mark Clattenburg, a former Premier League referee, weighed in on the issue and told the Daily Mail (h/t Metro):
“Harry Kane can count himself lucky not to have been sent off on Wednesday.”
The former ref added that contact was minimal but that was not important, and an attempted headbutt could also have led to a red card.
Clattenburg further claimed that Kane was fortunate regarding Azpilicueta’s reaction and the FA could take retrospective action:
“The incident seemed to be missed by the match officials and the FA could now take retrospective action against Kane.”
Tottenham need to bounce back quickly
The loss ended our faint hopes of winning the Premier League and we need to be back to our best for the weekend’s clash against the Gunners.
Arsenal are coming off an impressive 5-1 win over Bournemouth and we cannot take the Gunners lightly.
