Latest Tottenham news: Mauricio Pochettino claims Premier League title race is impossible for Spurs
Mauricio Pochettino cut a forlorn figure after the 2-0 loss to Chelsea in the Premier League. Spurs were coming off a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Burnley, and this result has more or less ended our title hopes.
Speaking to the BBC after the game, Pochettino claimed the team was disappointed with the performance:
“We made mistakes and lost the game, that is why we are disappointed.”
Kieran Trippier makes things difficult for Spurs
Kieran Trippier scored the second goal of the game but it was in his own net. The Englishman tried to pass back to Hugo Lloris but missed the Spurs captain and the ball trickled into an empty net.
Tottenham were already trailing at that point with Pedro opening the scoring for the hosts, and Pochettino claimed that we didn’t do enough in the final third to beat the Blues.
The manager lamented that catching Manchester City and Liverpool would be difficult and Spurs have to keep fighting till the end of the campaign:
“After Burnley I said it was difficult, and tonight makes it impossible to fight Man City and Liverpool.
“Only they can win the league – we must fight to win games and to be fair.”
Tottenham sit nine and eight points behind Liverpool and Manchester City respectively. Our lead over fourth-placed Arsenal has also been cut down to four points with 10 games remaining.
The next clash is against the Gunners, and these consecutive losses will put us under added pressure to get the right result on Saturday.
