Latest Tottenham news: Son Heung-min reveals he almost left in 2016
Son Heung-min has to count as one of the best signings Tottenham have made in the Premier League era.
The South Korean signed from Bayern Leverkusen and is one of the best players in the Premier League. Son has been excellent this season with 16 goals and six assists in all competitions but claimed he wanted to leave in 2016.
The Leverkusen man wasn’t starting many games under Mauricio Pochettino and told the Evening Standard:
“I came close to leaving.
“I went to the gaffer’s office and told him I didn’t feel comfortable and wanted to leave for Germany.”
The report claims that the South Korean came to this decision after the 2016 Olympic Games, but Pochettino kept faith in him.
Son added that he was “grateful” to Poch for trusting him and added that the Argentine made his dream come true.
Son shining bright
The South Korean has been our main man this season after injuries to Harry Kane and Dele Alli. The pair were missing for several games in 2019, and Son found his shooting boots to lead us to several wins.
The 26-year-old couldn’t score against Burnley or Chelsea, but the entire team played poorly in those two games.

It is a good thing that Pochettino stuck with Son and didn’t let him go in 2016. The 26-year-old has the potential to get even better in the coming seasons, and hopefully, we can celebrate a trophy or two in our new stadium.
