Tottenham transfer news: Norwich leading chase for Tottenham youngster Maxwell Statham
The Mirror reports that Championship side Norwich are leading the race for 18-year-old Tottenham centre-back Maxwell Statham.
The youngster was called up to train with the first-team this week, according to the report. The move could have been done as his contract ends after this season, and Spurs could still hand him a professional deal (h/t Mirror).
The 18-year-old is the son of former Tottenham player Brian Statham, who spent a couple of years at the club.
The report adds that Brentford, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest are also keeping tabs on the young centre-back.
Spurs have cover for their defenders
Tottenham’s first choice defenders are Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, but we have a couple of youngster as cover for the pair.
Davinson Sanchez has done well since his move from Ajax while Juan Foyth has done a decent job this season, though his game is still a little rough around the edges.
Tottenham could do with more centre-backs to increase the competition in the side as we have often played with three at the back.
The Premier League title race seems beyond our reach after consecutive defeats against Burnley and Chelsea.
We were average against the Blues and don’t have a lot of time to recover as we face Arsenal on Saturday.

A win for the Gunners would cut our lead over them to just one point and put serious doubts on Tottenham finishing third this season.
