Latest Tottenham news: Harry Redknapp claims Tottenham were a better side two years ago

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp believes Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs were better a couple of years ago.

Tottenham were in contention for the Premier League crown but two losses and a draw in their last three games have put title hopes to bed. Spurs were also a little lucky to come out with a point from the North London derby as Arsenal missed a penalty late on.

Redknapp was speaking on BBC 5 Live’s Sportsweek programme and claimed the team was better with the presence of Kyle Walker and Danny Rose being in great form (h/t Evening Standard):

“I honestly think Tottenham were better two years ago when Kyle Walker was playing right-back and absolutely on fire, Danny Rose was in his pomp absolutely flying and Dembele was top drawer.”

The former Spurs manager further spoke about Rose’s injuries, which have affected his form for Spurs.

“They were absolutely incredible then. Rose has had his injuries and has not been quite the same, Walker obviously moved on and Dembele has moved on.”

Spurs need the right kind of players in the team

Redknapp believed the team would come back stronger next season and even shared his thoughts on Pochettino’s claims that the team could take 10 years to land a title.

The former manager highlighted the example of Manchester City, where they bought players that were good enough to win the title.

“If they bring in two or three outstanding players in the summer, certainly they will be challenging again next year, maybe good enough to win it next year if they get the right players in. But it’s all about the players they bring in.”

Spurs need to sign some players in the summer after failing to land anyone in the past two transfer windows. Pochettino has done a great job in ensuring we stay competitive, but we need some fresh faces in the team.

It will be interesting to see how things develop in the summer window, and hopefully, we sign the right players for next season.
