Latest Tottenham news: Mauricio Pochettino claims Tottenham were better than Arsenal in derby stalemate

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino believes his team were better than Arsenal in the 1-1 draw at Wembley.

Aaron Ramsey opened the scoring for the away side before Harry Kane equalised via a spot-kick. There was some late drama as Hugo Lloris saved a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang penalty, and Lucas Torreira was sent off for the Gunners late on.

The Argentine was speaking after the draw and he claimed that Spurs were better than their rivals, and even questioned some of the refereeing decisions (h/t BT Sport):

“I think if you assess the game I think we were better than Arsenal in all the aspects.”

The manager even spoke about one incident where Granit Xhaka escaped without any punishment.

“Sometimes we focus on a few actions. But I think that the action that changed the game was after 12 minutes. The action from Xhaka to Harry Kane that wasn’t even a foul.

“That was the action that afterwards changed everything in the dynamic of the game. This season we are so unlucky, decisions that affect us in a negative way.”

Decisions have hurt Tottenham in the past

The manager even spoke about the 1-0 loss against Manchester United where he claimed that Paul Pogba should have been sent off.

Kane picked up a serious injury in that loss, and Pochettino highlighted that the Englishman was actually fouled in that incident but the decision did not go in our favour.

The manager didn’t make a meal out of the decisions and wanted the team to continue going, before hoping that our luck changes next season. The draw was an important result for us as we kept Arsenal four points behind us.

However, Manchester United lie just three points behind us. The Red Devils are in great form, and we have to be careful not to drop too many points.
