Latest Tottenham news: Fans fume after Mauricio Pochettino handed two-match touchline band
Tottenham might be celebrating the 1-0 triumph over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, but Mauricio Pochettino has been handed a two-match touchline ban for his altercation with referee Mike Dean.
The Argentine was fuming at the referee after the 2-1 defeat to Burnley, and the two games he will miss are the ones against Southampton and Liverpool (h/t Guardian).
The manager was apologetic about his reaction afterwards, however, this is the first time he has been in this much trouble over his antics.
Too harsh a punishment for the boss
The Guardian adds that Pochettino will be allowed to give half-time team-talks and can talk to the players before the game too.
However, this punishment seems a little too harsh on the Argentine given that Jurgen Klopp questioned the referee after their 1-1 draw against West Ham.
The German also escaped with a fine when he celebrated with Alisson in the Merseyside derby earlier in the season, and many fans were not happy with the handling of the situation.
Pochettino received 2 match touchline ban plus £10k fine which he accepts. BUT I call fans to bombard @FA with messages on social media so Dean’s comment is disclosed. Pochettino to act out of character what did Dean say which incensed MP to lose his cool? #COYS #Transparency

The F.A is a disgrace. Release what Mike Dean said.

Joke that he gets two games for a first offense. But what a pathetic display of cowardice that @premierleague won’t release what Mike Dean said to set Poch off. Lack of accountability with the refs is staggering in this league.

Considering Pochettino was not ranting at Mike Dean and had his hands behind his back, 2 match ban is excessive. Klopp rants at 4th officials and throws his hand in his direction yet receives no sanction https://t.co/lEmnjp4gQW

Typical a manager gets charged but the referee gets away with it scot-free. Oh and look Pochettino is going to be in the stands for the @LFC game again that we need to win if that’s not rigged I don’t know what is. #THFC #COYS

@FA, a 2 match ban? For words? For a first time infraction and an honest, open apology? And how many Championship matches will Dean be calling as his part in the incident? Stop working to tear us down and fix your own house.

Honestly what a disgrace. 2 match ban? #corruptfa

Ridiculous. How does what Poch did deserve a 2 game ban!? And mike dean is getting nothing??????

Pochettino not being on the touchline would be a bit of a miss, however, we should have enough quality to beat Southampton and do well at Anfield.

We fought hard for a 2-2 draw last time around and would want to avenge our defeat early in the season.
