Latest Tottenham news: Christian Eriksen open to facing ex-team Ajax in Champions League quarters

There were two huge stories in the Champions League on Tuesday with Tottenham and Ajax running out winners.

Spurs were in the driving seat after a 3-0 lead in the first leg, and the Premier League team ensured their passage into the next round with a 1-0 win over the Germans.

Harry Kane scored the winner and it was a great performance by all the members of the side.

Ajax, on the other hand, were fantastic against the defending champions Real Madrid. The Dutch giants were trailing 2-1 after the first leg but hammered four goals past the champions to progress 5-3 on aggregate.

Marco Asensio got the goal for Los Galacticos, but they were second best in almost every aspect of the tie on Tuesday.

Eriksen was asked after the game if he would be open to facing them in the next round, and the Dane was more than happy to play his former side.

“I’m happy for them. Its good for the city and the club”, the Dane added.

Homecoming for many Tottenham players?

Spurs have had a great relationship with Ajax and we have signed Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez from them.

Toby Alderweireld has also played for the Dutch giants, and Eriksen also claimed that he knew about the result against Madrid and had seen a few highlights of the performance too.

The Dane claimed this was a mature showing from the team and of course, thanked Hugo Lloris for doing well and keeping us in the tie.

Ajax won’t be easy competition for any side in the Champions League now. However, it would be two fantastic attacking teams going against each other if we face them in the quarter-finals.
