Latest Tottenham news: Tottenham fans react to shocking 2-1 loss to Southampton
Tottenham were brought down to earth after their success in Europe with a 2-1 loss to struggling Southampton.
Mauricio Pochettino was in the stands serving the first of his two-match touchline ban, and saw his side take a deserved lead thanks to Harry Kane.
The Englishman linked up well with the returning Dele Alli to slot Spurs ahead in the 26th minute.
Spurs had the better of the chances in the first half as Southampton held on. Christian Eriksen hit the crossbar from a free-kick and it was a bit of a miracle the Saints went into half-time just one goal down.
A poor showing in the second half from Tottenham
Spurs came into the game riding high on a 1-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, but Southampton came out all guns blazing in the second half.
They put Tottenham under immense pressure and Yan Valery got the equaliser after a bit of poor defensive play by Danny Rose.
The Southampton defender kicked the ball into the ground as it looped above Hugo Lloris but Rose let the ball go by him in the lead up to the goal.
The second goal was a belter from James Ward-Prowse as he smashed home a free-kick to leave Lloris with no chance at all.
The loss puts us in real danger from Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea in the race for the top four, and many Tottenham fans were frustrated at the loss.
