Latest Tottenham news: Some Spurs fans rip into Christian Eriksen after poor Southampton outing

Tottenham let slip a 1-0 lead at Southampton and ended up losing 2-1 to a team fighting for survival.

Spurs started the game brightly and took the lead via Harry Kane, but could not score a second goal despite complete dominance at St. Mary’s.

Christian Eriksen also hit the crossbar in the first half, but things just weren’t working for us in the second half.

Southampton came out with greater desire in the second half and equalised through Yan Valery. James Ward-Prowse scored a wonderful free-kick to give the Saints the lead, and they held on for a crucial three points.

Eriksen spoke after the game and claimed the team should not lose such games, especially after dominating the first half.

The Dane also was upset that the team could not get back to action given our next game is on 31 March, and wanted to get the team back on track (h/t Tottenhamhotspur.com):

“Again, we need to look ahead. What’s happened has happened and all we can do is try to get back on track.”

Most of Tottenham’s players suffer at St. Mary’s

The surprising aspect of the loss was how easily we allowed the Saints to get back into the game.

Tottenham had the better players on paper, and we should have continued making chances as we did in the first half.

However, many of the players made mistakes in the second half, and those were punished by a reinvigorated Southampton team.

The win should give them a boost for their survival hopes while our top four chances took a massive beating.

Many Tottenham fans weren’t impressed by Eriksen’s performance at the weekend and wanted him to play better.
