Latest Tottenham news: Fans breathe after Zinedine Zidane is named as Real Madrid manager
Real Madrid switched to their third manager this season and re-signed a familiar face.
Santiago Solari had struggled to get things in order at the La Liga giants and the former Madrid midfielder was replaced by Zinedine Zidane.
The Frenchman had sensationally left the club at the start of the season and Real appointed Julen Lopetegui, but that didn’t work out well for them either.
Zidane being named as the manager just 10 months after leaving the role is a bit of a shock, given that the La Liga giants have nothing to play for at the moment.
Appointment catches everyone by surprise
This signing comes out of the blue as Real had been touted as a possible destination for Mauricio Pochettino next season (h/t Sun).
The Argentine has seen Spurs blow their chances of the title in recent weeks, and the race for the top four is back on again.
Tottenham lie just one point ahead of Arsenal. Manchester United and Chelsea are within striking distance at the moment.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done extremely well at United too, and this reduces the clubs that Pochettino could move to come the end of the season.
The Argentine is still one of the best in the world and needs some signings to possibly take us to the next level.
Many Tottenham fans were pleased with Zidane’s appointment and celebrated on Twitter.
Best news of the day is #Zidane return to Madrid. Means Poch stay at spurs? #coys #poch

Hopefully Zidane to Real means Poch will remain at Spurs 😀

Zidane back to Madrid is great news for Spurs & Poch. Not that I was worried, but it puts the notion of him leaving firmly to bed. It’s bad news for Bale though. Definitely on his way out in the summer. Would be nice to bring him home but the chances of that are slim imo

So Zidane to Real and looks like Ole has the Man U job tied down means Pochettino staying at Spurs. Great news, he his the best thing to happen to Spurs in recent times anyways. #coys

Real Madrid have sacked their manager with immediate effect. Another one bites the dust for them.
But no fear as Zidane steps back in the hot seat.
We still have Mauricio Pochettino! #COYS

Zidane to Real…Ole’s at the wheel…does that mean we’re not going to have discussions about where Poch will be going at the end of the season anymore?#COYS

With news of Zidane going back to Madrid and Ole being considered for the job you have got to think United and Real have made approaches and getting turned down by either Poch or Levy 🤔 #COYS

Well that’s the end of all the “Poch to Madrid” chat now – looking forward to seeing where he’s linked with next…or maybe he’ll just stay where he is with his 4 year contract #Zidane #COYS
