Tottenham transfer news: Spurs set to lose Toby Alderweireld to Manchester United in summer
The Mirror (h/t Metro) reports that Toby Alderweireld will leave Tottenham for Manchester United in the summer.
The report claims that the Belgian was linked with the Red Devils in the summer, but Spurs held their ground.
Alderweireld is one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and the report claims that Spurs will lose him for £26million next season.
The Belgian’s contract ends in 2020, however, the figure for his sale comes from a clause in his current deal. Tottenham and Alderweireld have been unable to agree on a new deal.
Interest from other quarters
The report adds that Barcelona and Juventus are also interested in the Belgian, however, United remain favourites to land the defender.
The Belgian has been ever present in the team this season and is one of the senior players to have avoided a major injury in the campaign.
Losing Alderweireld would be a big blow to our plans for next season, however, there really isn’t more we can do apart from trying to convince him to sign a new deal.
Spurs have been able to extend the stays of stars such as Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. However, that has not been the case of others such as Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen.

The summer will be crucial for our plans to grow into a better side, and hopefully, we get some fresh faces into the team too.
