Tottenham let Mousa Dembele move to China in January and are yet to fill the void he has left in central midfield. With frequent injuries to midfield powerhouse Victor Wanyama, Spurs should be on the market in search for a midfielder and former Nice man Jean Michael Seri will be a perfect fit.
Seri joined Fulham in the summer transfer window from Ligue 1 side Nice. The 27-year-old has played every game for the Lillywhites since his move from France. Fulham are on the brink of relegation and are placed 19th in the league, 8 points off of safety. The asking fee for the midfielder will drop considerably if Claudio Ranieri’s side are relegated and Spurs should move in for the Ivorian.
Jean Michael Seri moved to Porto on loan from his first club ASEC Mimosas in November 2012. The loan move turned out to be unsuccessful as he failed to make a single appearance for the first team. The following season, Seri moved to another Portuguese club Pacos de Ferreira. The Ivorian made 54 appearances for the club before moving to Nice in 2015.
Seri rose to spotlight at the French club in his debut season. He played every game in the league and bagged 3 goals and 6 assists that season. The Ivorian’s next season in France was a massive success as he scored 7 goals and picked up 9 assists in a terrific campaign for Nice as they finished 3rd in the French top flight. After 3 brilliant seasons at Nice, Seri was linked to a number of big clubs but he shocked the footballing world by signing a 4 year deal with Fulham.
Seri is a versatile midfielder who can play as a number 6,8 or as a 10. As a defensive midfielder, The Ivorian wins his fair share of balls and averages 1.5 tackles and 1.1 interceptions per game in the Premier League. Seri has an outstanding right foot and has the ability to shoot from distance, in open play or from a dead ball situation.
Seri could fit in well at Spurs and can play next to Eric Dier in a box-to-box role. The 27-year-old can adapt himself based on the opposition and can slot in anywhere in central midfield. The Ivorian’s energy and physicality will be welcomed by Mauricio Pochettino whose style of play will bring the best out of Seri.
Should Fulham get relegated, Seri could look to move on to further his career but irrespective of Fulham’s situation, Tottenham should make a move for the former Nice man in the summer.
