Latest Tottenham news: Joao Moutinho was a minute away from signing for Spurs

Wolverhampton Wanderers have been the surprise package in the Premier League this season.

The newly-promoted side have won against Chelsea and Tottenham, and one player that has been at the heart of all things good is Joao Moutinho.

The Portuguese midfielder was speaking ahead of the tie against Manchester United in the FA Cup and revealed he was close to joining Tottenham earlier.

The Mirror reports that Moutinho had signed a deal to bring him to White Hart Lane but he was just a minute late in completing the deal in 2012.

So near yet so far

Moutinho won Euro 2016 with Portugal and further stated that he could have signed for Everton prior to his almost move to Tottenham (h/t Mirror):

“I’ve had one or two opportunities in the past. The first was Everton, the second Spurs. I am in the room but the next day I had a game in Portugal, it didn’t happen, it was one minute from happening… I had actually signed but it was one minute past the deadline.”

Moutinho could have been a great signing for us back in 2012 but he is enjoying his football in the Premier League now.

Tottenham were surprisingly defeated by the newly promoted side 3-1 at Wembley this season, and we need to avoid defeats like those until the end of the season.

Spurs are in the race for the top four and cannot slip up, while Moutinho could lead Wolves to seventh place should they hold their place with eight games to go.
