Latest Tottenham news: Fans come out in support of Cameron Carter-Vickers after penalty call against Manchester City
Cameron Carter-Vickers started for Swansea City in their FA Cup clash against Premier League leaders Manchester City.
The Tottenham defender is on loan at the Championship side as they looked to spring a surprise on the Cityzens. Things looked good for the Welsh side as they were leading 2-0 until the 69th minute before Bernardo Silva scored a rocket.
Manchester City were in the ascendency after that goal and they got a bit of luck with their second too.
Carter-Vickers unlucky to give away a spot-kick
The Tottenham defender was doing his best to keep City from getting a goal. There were some heroic saves and blocks by Swansea, however, all their hard work was undone by a poor call.
Raheem Sterling tried to run past the Spurs defender in the penalty box as Carter-Vickers lunged at the Manchester City star.
The referee pointed to the spot, however, replays showed that the Spurs defender got the ball and there was minimal contact with Sterling after Carter-Vickers took the ball away.
City needed more help for their winner after Sergio Aguero’s penalty. The Argentine scored a header but was offside and the linesman missed that call too.
Many fans questioned the calls in the game and supported the Tottenham defender’s tackle.
it was terrible, Carter-Vickers literally doesn’t touch him at all. Swans would’ve won it 2-1 if var was actually there

He was quality there and I thought Carter-Vickers was excellent, especially as he was playing at left back for so long.
Tactics worked well, I’ve felt GP has tweaked a bit too much in the league but the switches worked well today, despite the end result.

He didn’t dive. Carter-Vickers won the ball clean and Sterling dropped. Just trash refereeing

The more I see it, carter Vickers won the ball, and bit was a blatant dive, ten out of ten for artistic impression.

Swansea got robbed. Carter-Vickers got a touch on that “penalty” call. And Agüero was offside by a yard or two on that winner. Absolute shabolic refereeing.
