Tottenham Hotspur transfer news: Tottenham eye Benfica youngster Jota

A Bola (h/t Daily Star) reports that Tottenham are interested in 19-year-old Benfica starlet Joao Pedro Neves Filipe, who is better known as Jota.

The report claims that Spurs sent scouts to watch the youngster in action against Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday.

The youngster is one of the rising talents in the Portuguese league and the report claims that Bayern Leverkusen were also scouting the player during the Europa League game.

The youngster has mostly played in the Benfica B team and can play in several positions in the attack.

The 19-year-old has a release clause of £25m, but the report claims that Benfica want to increase that to £85m.

Is Jota ready for the Premier League?

Tottenham didn’t sign a player for two transfer windows and hopefully, that changes at the end of this season.

The lack of fresh faces in the side has hurt us in our Premier League quest as Mauricio Pochettino’s options have been limited in attack.

Jota might be a rising talent in Portugal but making the step up to the Premier League isn’t easy.

The youngster would need time to adjust to the English game and could do with some time on loan at another club before joining a big side like Tottenham.

Spurs have to be careful about spending big money on players and not getting a return. We have been hurt in the past over some of our foreign signings under Pochettino, and need to avoid such scenarios in the future.
