Tottenham transfer news: Spurs want record fee from Real Madrid for Christian Eriksen

Tottenham will push Real Madrid for a world-record fee in order to part ways with Christian Eriksen, according to the Daily Star.

The Dane will be on the final year of his contract at the end of the season. Spurs have failed to negotiate a new deal with the midfielder, and the report adds that they are resigned to losing him.

The report claims that Eriksen has “dreamed” of playing for Real but Barcelona are also interested in the 26-year-old. Daniel Levy will not go without a fight and wants £200million for the Dane, according to the Star.

That would be the highest transfer fee in the world after PSG stumped up £198m (h/t Daily Star) for Neymar when they signed him from Barcelona.

Tottenham should make Real pay big

Real have signed Gareth Bale and Luka Modric in the past, and if we are to lose one of our best players, we should look for a big payout.

Selling Eriksen would be a blow, however, it is better we let him leave at the end of this season rather than lose him for free at the end of the next campaign.

Replacing Eriksen would not be easy but we could strengthen some of the other areas of the team with the fee from the Dane’s sale.

Spurs have been able to extend the deals of some of the top stars such as Harry Kane and Dele Alli, however, we have struggled to do the same for the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
