Latest Tottenham news: London station to be renamed as Tottenham Hotspur
The Guardian reports that Tottenham have been successful in lobbying London mayor Sadiq Khan to rename White Hart Lane station to Tottenham Hotspur.
The report adds that Spurs had first approached Transport for London (TfL) more than two years ago.
The office had asked Tottenham to pay more than £14.7m for the renaming, however, the report claims that Spurs won’t have to pay that amount.
Spurs had contested the multi-million-pound deal to rename the station, and the report adds that the turnaround came after a meeting between Spurs, TfL and London mayoral officials.
The report adds that Tottenham’s executive director Donna Cullen shared that the name change was part of a huge £250m strategy into selling the naming rights to a major partner.
A spokesperson for the mayor on London added that this was a unique partnership between TfL and Tottenham and would help create a new destination for the regeneration of the area (h/t Guardian).
Spurs making the right moves
Renaming the station would be a great move for Tottenham as Arsenal also have their own station in Highbury.
Spurs’ opening game at the new ground is against Crystal Palace on 3 April as the club confirmed the date.
It will be interesting to see what are the other plans we have for the new stadium, given it is going to be one of the best in the world.

Spurs will also host their Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester City at the new ground, and that match should have an incredible atmosphere created by the supporters.
