Spurs transfer news: Alderweireld not thinking beyond current season despite links with Manchester United
Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld isn’t thinking about his future and wants to concentrate on the season at hand.
The 30-year-old’s contract at Tottenham was extended for another year, however, this activated a £25m release clause for the upcoming summer window (h/t Metro).
The Metro adds that Manchester United, along with other top European clubs have been linked with the centre-back.
The defender was asked about his future while on international duty by Sky Sports (h/t Metro) but chose to play it safe:
“There’s a lot to play for this season. And in the end, I have a year contract left at Spurs, so I don’t look further than this season.
“Other things I don’t know. I am very happy at Spurs, so we will see what the future brings.”
Alderweireld believes he has more to give
The 30-year-old added that he feels fit and believes he is younger than his current age. The defender has been one of the most consistent players for Tottenham this season and has been one of the few first-teamers not to have missed a chunk of the season due to injury.
The defender said he would give it his all till the end of the season, and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Alderweireld.
The Belgian still has a few quality years left in him and losing the 30-year-old would be a bit of a blow to Spurs.

The best solution would be to agree on a new deal with the defender, and should that fail, the next best option would be to sell him to a non-Premier League club.
