Spurs transfer news: Aston Villa promotion could scupper Tottenham’s bid for Jack Grealish
Jack Grealish was close to joining Tottenham at the start of the season, according to the Daily Star.
The English midfielder’s move to the Premier League side failed and he missed two months of the season with an injury (h/t Daily Star).
Spurs didn’t sign any players in the last two transfer windows, and the Daily Star reports that Aston Villa gaining promotion to the Premier League would be a problem to our hopes of landing the Englishman.
Villa have won their last four Championship games and haven’t lost a tie in their last 10 in which Grealish has played.
The midfielder has four goals and five assists to his name this season, and the Villans lie sixth in the Championship, occupying a playoff spot.
Premier League race in the Championship
Coming through the playoffs would be a great achievement for Villa, and the report claims that should they return to the top flight, Grealish would be tempted to remain with the club.
Grealish would be a great addition to Spurs and at 23, he still has his best years ahead of him. Mauricio Pochettino could also develop the Englishman into a world-class midfielder.
It will be interesting to see how the promotion race goes in the Championship with several clubs still in the reckoning for a playoff spot.

Grealish’s form has been great in recent weeks, and he could take the Villans all the way should play at his best.
