Spurs transfer news: Athletic Bilbao president speaks about possible Fernando Llorente interest

Fernando Llorente hasn’t had the greatest of times since joining Tottenham from Swansea a couple of years ago.

The Spaniard has often come off the bench but starting several games in a season has been tough to achieve due to the form of Harry Kane.

Last season was certainly a struggle for the forward but this campaign has been slightly better. The 34-year-old has found the back of the net seven times and has four assists too.

Football.london reports that Llorente was linked with a return to his former club Athletic Bilbao in the winter window.

However, the club’s president recently spoke about Llorente and  maintained they are tracking his situation along with other players.

Aitor Elizegi was speaking to radio station Radio Euskadi and first highlighted the Llorente situation (h/t Football.london):

“Llorente said very clearly that Athletic had not addressed him in the winter market, he said personally, but what the club does have is the obligation to have proof of the status of the contracts of all the players capable of playing in the Athletic.”

The president further claimed that the “Sports Commission” is serious about their job and know a lot about the players and the age/condition they are in before a return to the club.

Tottenham can only count on Llorente as cover for Harry Kane at the moment.

Vincent Janssen isn’t in the plans of Mauricio Pochettino, and should the Spaniard leave, it will be interesting to see what we do for the attack.

Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura can play as strikers, however, the team would still require some cover for Kane and the other attackers.
