Latest Spurs news: Stadium to be called ‘Tottenham Hotspur Stadium’ as search for naming partner continues
The Evening Standard reports that the new home of Tottenham will be called the ‘Tottenham Hotspur Stadium’ with no naming-rights deal set in place for next season.
The stadium was scheduled to open in September last season but has been hit by several delays. The ground is finally ready and the first visitors will be Crystal Palace on 3 April.
The Evening Standard adds that Tottenham have been in talks with several parties over a deal, but Daniel Levy recently told the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust that no such deal is in place.
Nike not in the running for stadium name
The report adds Spurs confirmed in previous meetings that the stadium will be called ‘Tottenham Hotspur Stadium’ until a partner is found, and not be called White Hart Lane.
Sportswear company Nike are not in the running for the naming-rights deal, according to the minutes of the meeting (h/t Evening Standard).
This would not be the first time a football stadium would be named after sponsors. We have seen Newcastle play at the Sports Direct Arena (St. James’ Park) for a while due to a sponsorship deal. Bournemouth play at the Vitality Stadium while Leicester City play at the King Power Stadium.
