Spurs transfer news: Tottenham interested in Douglas Costa as they could lose Toby Alderweireld

Calciomercato claims that Tottenham could be open to swapping Douglas Costa of Juventus for defender Toby Alderweireld.

The Belgian defender will have just one year left on his contract at the end of this season and reports (h/t Calciomercato) have suggested that Juventus are interested in the centre-back.

The report adds that the Italian giants are looking at a new centre-back as the trio of Andrea Barzagli, Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci aren’t getting any younger.

The other defenders on their list include Matthijs de Ligt, Cristian Romero and Ruben Dias (h/t Calciomercato).

The report adds Alderweireld would be an immediate replacement for Barzagli, who seems set to be the first to retire from the Juventus defence.

Costa is a talented winger but has his problems

The Brazilian winger has had his problems this season at Juventus and only has registered one goal all season.

The 28-year-old isn’t the youngest player out there and his time in Turin has been filled with highs and lows.

The report adds that the winger is looking to leave the Italian champions. The 28-year-old has only made nine starts in all competitions for Juve.

Costa can play in several positions across the park but his output in the final third hasn’t always been great.

The Brazilian has never scored more than four league goals in a campaign for either Bayern Munich or Juventus and has struggled on the pitch this season.
