Latest Spurs news: Fans stay positive despite 2-1 loss to Liverpool
Tottenham were given a sickening blow late in the game at Anfield. The visitors had been the better side after the break and had levelled via Lucas Moura to cancel Roberto Firmino’s opener.
Liverpool started the game as the much better side, and we were lucky to have conceded just the one till half-time. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah had great chances to score, but we somehow survived.
A different Tottenham in the second half
Mauricio Pochettino tweaked our system a bit in the second half. We were playing three at the back, with Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose as the wing-backs.
The pair played their roles in us dominating the Reds, and we should have taken the lead when Moussa Sissoko was sent clear by Son Heung-min.
However, the Frenchman blasted high when he could have squared the ball too. There was another chance when Harry Kane was left wide open but Rose’s cross went over the bar.
Just when it looked like the game would end in a 1-1 draw, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s floaty cross was headed by Salah towards Hugo Lloris.
The header didn’t have a lot of power but the Frenchman parried the ball which hit Toby Alderweireld and went in. The loss is tough to swallow and now the race for the top four is really on as just one point separates the third-placed team and the sixth-placed side.
Tottenham deserved more from this game, and that is what many fans highlighted.
Awful way to lose it
