Spurs transfer news: Nicolo Zaniolo’s contract talks come to a halt at AS Roma

Tottenham have been linked with AS Roma’s rising star Nicolo Zaniolo, according to Football.london, and the latest reports claim that the youngster’s contract talks at the club have come to a halt.

Zaniolo is one of the hottest properties in the Serie A and joined Roma from Inter Milan.

The 19-year-old has five goals and two assists in all competitions for Roma and even made a couple of appearances for Italy during the international break.

Calciomercato (h/t Football.london) reports that talks started between the player and club after several impressive displays.

However, the report claims that all negotiations over a new deal have stopped after the departure of sporting director Monchi and confusion leading the roles at the Italian giants.

Champions League could have a huge bearing on Zaniolo’s future

The 19-year-old can play across the front-line and even in midfield, and the report claims that talks will possibly resume in April when Roma’s Champions League qualification is clearer.

The Italians are seventh in the table currently and are four points behind fourth-placed AC Milan.

The report adds that Arsenal were also interested in the Italian ace, while Real Madrid and Juventus are said to be keeping an eye on the current situation.

Tottenham are also in a tough race for the Champions League spots. Spurs now lie fourth in the table, level on points with Manchester United and one ahead of Chelsea.
