Spurs opinion: Mauricio Pochettino has some tough decisions to make regarding Tottenham’s goalkeeping situations
For 90 minutes it seemed that Tottenham would have been unlucky coming out of the Liverpool game with one point.
The Reds had swamped us in the first half and took the lead via Roberto Firmino, but Mauricio Pochettino changed our system in the second.
We dominated the Reds post the half-time break and got our reward thanks to some great work down the right flank.
Lucas Moura raced in to smash home the equaliser, and we should have scored more but for some poor finishing and decision making.
Liverpool threw the sink at us, and we were again unfortunate in the final seconds as Hugo Lloris could not grasp Mohamed Salah’s header. The ball came off a hapless Toby Alderweireld and trickled into the Spurs net.
The Liverpool players ran off celebrating an unlikely and undeserved win while several Tottenham players were left holding their heads in disbelief.
Mistakes happen on the pitch and Lloris came out after the game and shouldered the responsibility for the error.
The 32-year-old has been excellent for us over the years, however, there have been a few high profile errors in recent seasons.
Lloris was partly culpable for the own goal we scored at Stamford Bridge this season, however, Tottenham don’t have plans to replace their World Cup winner in the summer.
The Daily Mail reports that Mauricio Pochettino will concentrate on other areas of the team while some believe that Paulo Gazzaniga will come good in the future.
A difficult situation made harder due to the current scenario
The goalkeeping problem has been magnified a lot more now due to our season unravelling so quickly. Spurs were an outside bet for the title a few months ago, and now, we are in a dog fight for a top-four place.
Every single error we make will be highlighted, and the Lloris error is no different.
The Frenchman came off the summer winning the World Cup but was involved in a drink-driving case. The Tottenham captain apologised for his transgression and has put in some quality performances this season.
Lloris saved our skin against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, and the 32-year-old is still one of the best shot-stoppers in the Premier League. He even came up huge in our 1-1 draw with Arsenal as he saved a late penalty.

Dropping him after the Liverpool game would be a knee-jerk reaction. The former Lyon star has given us several quality years of service and if Spurs are looking to stick with him for the next season and longer, Pochettino has to play his cards right.
The Argentine seems to have a great relationship with his players, and hopefully, he can solve this issue with Lloris too.
Gazzaniga looks ready for the step up and only lost two games while starting in between this sticks this season for us.
Both were cup ties against London opponents but the Argentine is 27 at the moment and needs to play more games.

Lloris is the captain of Tottenham and dropping him would be a disservice to the years he has given to the club.

Pochettino has some tough decisions to make in the summer, and none will be more tricky than dealing with the goalkeeping position at Spurs.
