Spurs transfer news: Tottenham could open negotiations with Alderweireld regarding release clause
The Sun reports that Toby Alderweireld is being monitored by several Premier League clubs.
The Belgian is one of the top defenders in the competition and the report adds that Alderweireld could leave for £25million due to a clause in his contract.
The report adds that no club has made an official approach to Spurs regarding the centre-back, however, Tottenham could be looking at “fresh terms” to remove the clause that allows Alderweireld to leave on the cheap.
The Belgian is out of a contract at the end of next season (h/t Guardian), and the Sun adds that Arsenal are keeping tabs on the 30-year-old.
Manchester clubs looking into Toby
The interest from Alderweireld also comes from Manchester, with the Sun claiming that both City and United are interested in the Belgian.
Tottenham’s other London rivals Chelsea are also interested in the former Atletico Madrid defender (h/t Sun).
Alderweireld has been one of the key players for us this season and has been rested ahead of the Champions League quarter-finals second leg against Manchester City.
Spurs hold a one-goal advantage after the first leg and need to be at their best at the Etihad in midweek.
Keeping Alderweireld would be fantastic for Spurs as it would be difficult to replace him on the cheap.

Further, getting rid of the release clause by negotiating a new deal would provide us with more protection should there be continuous interest in the centre-back.
