Spurs news: Tottenham handed huge boost ahead of Man City clash

According to a report from Football.London, Spurs have been handed a significant boost ahead of their Champions League clash with Manchester City as Fernandinho is doubtful on Wednesday.

Fernandinho, 33, missed Manchester City’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday, with Pep Guardiola unsure of the midfielder’s status for the European clash with Tottenham. Prior to the Crystal Palace game, the City tactician revealed that the Brazilian could miss the home clash with Tottenham on Wednesday.

“Yes. He finished bad against Tottenham. Today he is not fit. It’s short-term,” Guardiola was quoted in a report by Football.London.

It’ll be a big blow for Manchester City and a huge boost for Tottenham if Fernandinho misses the upcoming fixture. Fernandinho has been a pivotal figure for City again this season, making 38 appearances across all competitions already as a mainstay in Guardiola’s line-up.

As a key cog in City’s system, losing the Brazilian for the visit of Tottenham will be a blow. But for now, Guardiola and City have an anxious wait on their hands to determine whether or not their midfield anchor can return in time.

Tottenham, meanwhile, hold a slim advantage over Manchester City heading into the second leg at the Etihad on Wednesday night. A Son Heung-min strike late on at the brand new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last week handed Mauricio Pochettino’s side a one-goal lead in the first leg.

We have built on the victory over City with a 4-0 smashing of relegated Huddersfield Town at the weekend, with Lucas Moura claiming the first ever hat-trick at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Confidence is sky-high at the moment and let’s hope we beat City on Wednesday and qualify for the Champions League semi-finals.
