Spurs news: Lloris backs Son and Moura to come good in Kane’s absence
Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has backed Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura to deliver the goods in the absence of Harry Kane against Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday.
Spurs hold a 1-0 advantage over Manchester City, thanks to a late Son Heung-min goal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the home leg last week. But Harry Kane’s injury took the shine off the victory, with the England international withdrawn inside an hour having suffered significant ligament damage.
Kane suffered the injury when he slipped while attempting to prevent a clearance from Fabian Delph. There is very little hope of seeing our 26-year-old marksman again this season unless Spurs reach the Champions League final, which will be played on June 1.
And in Kane’s absence, Lloris feels Son and Lucas are more than capable of causing Manchester City problems on Wednesday night.
“They have different profiles,” Lloris was quoted by the Independent. “Of course we would prefer to have Harry but every time the gaffer gives the chance to Lucas and to Son they respond very well. They’ve scored important goals this season.
“It was so good for Lucas to get three goals against Huddersfield. We’re going to probably have a lot of space to use against Manchester City so we need the attacking players to be ready to run and give problems to their defence.”
Son has shown he can step up in Kane’s absence
Son has already shown that he can step up and be counted in Kane’s absence. The South Korean scored in four successive matches when Kane was last sidelined, including the opener in the 3-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the last round of the Champions League.
Moura, meanwhile, should be high in confidence after bagging a fine hat-trick in the 4-0 victory over Huddersfield Town in the Premier League at the weekend.

With just five games remaining in the league and the Champions League clash with City on the horizon, Son and Moura will have to be at their sublime best form over the next few weeks, if we are to end the season on a high.
