Spurs news: Pochettino vows to beat Manchester City without Harry Kane

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has labelled Manchester City as Champions League favourites but he insists our side could end their challenge even without talismanic striker Harry Kane.

Spurs will defend a slender 1-0 advantage at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday and although we have the lead in the tie, the absence of Kane due to his latest ligament injury will be a blow for us. But our gaffer remains unfazed and wants the team to perform according to the plan.

“We have the belief and we will be strong. Tomorrow is going to be an amazing challenge,” Pochettino was quoted by Football.London.

“It’s going to be tough tomorrow as City are one of the best teams in the world.

“I’m not thinking about winning or losing. The most important for us is to perform in the way we want to perform. In this type of competition you must be focused.”

On the injury front, Pochettino claimed his medical team will need to assess Dele Alli during the last training session and then come to a conclusion. Alli missed Saturday’s 4-0 win over Huddersfield after fracturing his hand in the first leg but has travelled with the team to Manchester.

“We need to assess him. We’ll have our last training session today and then we’ll decide,” our gaffer added.

With Kane sidelined, the pressure will be on Son Heung-min to fill the void and not only has Pochettino praised the South Korean but also expects his other attacking players to deliver at the Etihad.

“He’s doing a fantastic job. After November I am so happy with him. It’s not all about Son, it’s about the offensive players,” the Spurs boss addressed.

City are favourites to progress into the next round but we hold a slender advantage. Tottenham have to stick to the plan and play to their best to achieve a positive result at the Etihad. Let’s hope we put in a strong performance and dump City out of the competition on Wednesday.
