Spurs transfer news: Tottenham targeting Maxi Gomez and Luiz Felipe
Tottenham are plotting a £22million summer swoop for Celta Vigo star Maxi Gomez, reports the Daily Mirror. The North London side are hoping to bolster their attack, with Fernando Llorente potentially departing this summer.
Since moving to Europe two years ago, Maxi Gomez has been a star for Celta Vigo. He netted 17 goals in La Liga last season in his first campaign in the La Liga. However, he has failed to hit the heights of last season and has netted just twice in his last 13 appearances.
Yet, the Daily Mirror claim West Ham wanted the Uruguayan hitman in the January transfer window but Celta refused to sell as they are battling against relegation. The 22-year-old has a release clause of £42m which will be halved to £22m should Celta suffer relegation, making him imminently more attainable for Tottenham.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino wants more depth in his attack next season and that largely could be the reason why he is interested in signing Gomez. Our gaffer also wants to bolster his team’s defensive options and is keen on Lazio defender Luiz Felipe, adds the report.
Toby Alderweireld’s future remains uncertain at our club, with the Belgian centre-half having refused to pen a new contract. He has a £26million clause in his contract that is active from the start of the summer’s transfer window up to the final two weeks.
Spurs have no option but to sell Alderweireld in the summer on a cut-price deal, with just a year of the defender’s contract remaining. Hence, Pochettino wants to add strength to his backline and is looking at Felipe, who is valued at around £18m-20m by Lazio, the report adds.
Gomez and Felipe will be solid additions for Spurs
Pochettino has done miracles this season without spending a single penny in the past two transfer windows. But to genuinely challenge for the Premier League title next term, he needs to persuade our board to spend money in the next window.

Both Maxi Gomez and Luiz Felipe are affordable and our board must not hesitate to thrash out deals for them.
