Tottenham transfer news: Spurs confident Eriksen will sign a new contract
Tottenham are growing increasingly confident that Christian Eriksen will sign a new contract with the club, as per a report from the Sun.
The Dane’s deal with Tottenham expires in the summer of 2020 and there has been plenty of speculation over his future, with Manchester United eyeing a move for him as Paul Pogba’s future at Old Trafford is in doubt, claims the Sun.
The report claims both Eriksen and Spurs are closer to an agreement after the latest round of talks and our club are willing to double his £75,000-a-week wages. But the north Londoners will need to qualify for the Champions League next season if we want our star midfielder to pen a new deal.
Spurs are gunning for a top-four finish and have four games left in the Premier League to play, with three at our new home. We face a fight to finish in the top four following our 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday, however, defeats for Arsenal and Manchester United have not affected the table.
Eriksen should stay at Spurs
The aforementioned story comes as a huge boost to Spurs that Eriksen is willing to commit his future to the club by penning a new deal.
The 27-year-old has been one of the most consistent performers at our club ever since he joined from Ajax in 2013. He is one of Mauricio Pochettino’s crucial cogs in the team and without his presence in the engine room, we simply lack cohesion and creativity in the final third.

But for persuading Eriksen to sign a new deal we will need to qualify for the Champions League, either through a league position or by winning this season’s competition. Let’s hope we achieve that by any means.
