Tottenham transfer news: Cengiz Under can leave AS Roma in the summer

Tottenham have received a big boost in their pursuit of winger Cengiz Under as Roma could let him leave the club in the summer, reports Calciomercato.

Cengiz Under, 21, who joined AS Roma from Istanbul Basaksehir in 2017, hasn’t started a game for the Giallorossi since January due to injury and poor form and has made just 29 appearances in total this season, scoring on six occasions.

But that has done no harm to the Turkish winger’s stock as Roma value him in the region of €40m and want to get as much money as they can in the summer if he wants to leave, adds Calciomercato.

Tottenham have been interested in Under for some time now but we’ll have to fight our bitter rivals Arsenal in the summer to land the Roma star.

Do Tottenham need Cengiz Under?

Tottenham need to spend big over the summer if Mauricio Pochettino is to genuinely mount a title challenge. He has done miracles this season without spending a single penny in the past two transfer windows but that same cannot continue if our club has any ambitions of winning silverware.

Whatever happens this season, with or without Champions League football next term, our club should back Pochettino when the transfer window re-opens. We need fresh faces in the squad next season and Under is a player that should be considered.

The Turkey international is one of the exciting young talents in Europe and has a huge potential which Pochettino apparently can unlock. Under will not only add quality to our attacking ranks but also give depth to the squad.

Squad depth is an important aspect while competing for trophies and Pochettino needs to have that to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the title.
