Latest Spurs news: Mauricio Pochettino confirms Jan Vertonghen will be back for Ajax clash
Tottenham didn’t have much to celebrate after their London derby against West Ham United.
The Hammers ended our winning start at the new ground as Michail Antonio got the only goal of the game.
Spurs huffed and puffed but could not get the goal to get a point. Mauricio Pochettino made some changes to his starting XI with Jan Vertonghen not in the side.
We played with a back three and two wing-backs but it wasn’t enough to get the better of the Hammers.
Pochettino was speaking after the game and was asked whether Vertonghen, Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks would play against Ajax.
The midfielder pair have groin issues and Pochettino claimed Vertonghen was guaranteed to face the Dutch giants (h/t Football.london):
“Vertonghen for sure, Sissoko, I don’t know we will have to assess tomorrow. I think Harry Winks no.”
The Belgian is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and his return should be a boost to our team in midweek.
Tottenham struggling with injuries
Spurs have a few players recovering from problems at the moment. Erik Lamela and Serge Aurier are on the treatment table and Harry Kane has ankle ligament damage.
Ajax were given the weekend off as they prepared for the Champions League clash in our new stadium on Tuesday.
Spurs cannot take the Dutch giants lightly and it will be important for us to be at our best against a quality team.

Tottenham have to play better than they did against the Hammers to win on Tuesday, and hopefully, we can keep Ajax from scoring an away goal.
