Latest Spurs news: Mauricio Pochettino unhappy with Ajax advantage ahead of Champions League clash

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino isn’t happy with Ajax’s advantage ahead of the Champions League semi-final next week.

Spurs face West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday, however, Ajax don’t play any football as Dutch authorities postponed all Eredivisie fixtures to give them more time to prepare.

Speaking ahead of the London derby, Pochettino claimed that the FA and the Premier League tried to help but this competition is different to that from the Dutch league (h/t Sky Sports).

The Argentine also highlighted the advantage that Ajax have and claimed he would have spoken about the issue had Spurs been on the other side of the coin:

“The reality is they are going to have more time to prepare and avoid risk. When you play Saturday and Tuesday, and the game on Saturday is a derby, playing for big things, the concentration and effort is massive. You can have some problems.

“The fact is I think it’s not fair. If it was the opposite where we had one week to prepare for the semi-final and Ajax play Saturday, I would think the same, that it’s not fair for them.”

Pochettino added that he didn’t want to create a debate but claimed that both teams should come into the game with the “same time to prepare”.

Tottenham face a tough clash on Saturday and Tuesday

West Ham won’t be pushovers and a derby is always a tricky tie. Tottenham have several players out with injuries and we need to come out unscathed from the clash.

The Dutch giants have been exceptional this season and have already knocked out two European giants.

Ajax currently lead the Eredivisie only on goal difference and have scored 111 times in the league this season.
