Latest Spurs news: Tottenham confirm Jan Vertonghen did not suffer a concussion against Ajax
Tottenham released a statement regarding Jan Vertonghen, confirming that the Belgian did not suffer a concussion in the tie against Ajax.
The centre-back clashed with Andre Onana and Toby Alderweireld as the trio went up for a ball. Vertonghen also suffered a nasty cut on his nose which led to some bleeding.
The medical staff worked on the 32-year-old as he was assessed on the sidelines before returning to the pitch.
However, Vertonghen could not continue for long and had to be helped off the pitch as he almost collapsed.
The release added the player was assessed over a 48 hour period by our medical staff and an independent neurologist and confirmed there was no concussion.
The player had to be withdrawn and the club confirmed why Vertonghen could not stand up:
“We have been advised that this was the result of a presyncopal episode, a near faint.”
The specialist added that the defender needs to take some time off for rehabilitation before he joins training.
The release also claimed that all Football Association concussion guidelines were followed regarding the incident.
