Spurs transfer news: Tottenham enter race for Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek

The Daily Mail reports that Tottenham are interested in Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek.

The Dutch youngster scored the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win over Spurs in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final last week.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a fine season with the Dutch giants, having racked up 15 goals and 11 assists this season in all competitions.

The report claims that Spurs see Van de Beek as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also interested in signing the 22-year-old.

Ajax relationship to help Tottenham?

Ajax and Spurs have a great relationship regarding transfers. Eriksen, Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen all joined from the Dutch side, and the report claims that Tottenham would be in a great position should Van de Beek decide to move to the Premier League.

The report adds that Spurs could sign Van de Beek for £45million but the Dutch giants want to keep the majority of their squad.

Frenkie de Jong will join Barcelona at the end of this season, and the report claims that Matthijs de Ligt is expected to join him at the Nou Camp.

Spurs haven’t signed anyone in two transfer windows, but the report adds that Mauricio Pochettino will be provided with significant funds in the summer.

Van de Beek would be an excellent signing for Spurs as we lack options in the midfield. Mousa Dembele was sold in the winter window, and we did not bring in a replacement.

The lack of squad depth has hurt us this campaign as the injuries are now piling up.

Hopefully, we have enough in the tank to defeat Ajax in midweek and make it to the Champions League final.
