Spurs transfer news: Tottenham target Robin Koch as possible Toby Alderweireld replacement

Bild (h/t Football.london) reports that Tottenham are interested in Freiburg defender Robin Koch as a possible replacement for Toby Alderweireld.

The Belgian defender is out of a contract at the end of next season and he could leave Spurs for a fee of £25m in the summer, according to the report.

The report adds that the Bundesliga side sold Caglar Soyuncu to Leicester for around £18m, and would want more for the 22-year-old centre-back.

Tottenham aren’t the only ones interested in Koch, and the report claims that Valencia are also keeping tabs on the 22-year-old.

Tottenham keeping options open ahead of the season

Alderweireld hasn’t confirmed that he would be leaving Spurs in the summer, but keeping our options open is the right way to go about the issue with his contract.

Ideally, it would be great to extend Alderweireld’s deal at the club and keep him for a few more years.

The Belgian is one of the best in the Premier League and his pairing with Jan Vertonghen has paid great dividends in recent years.

Losing Alderweireld on the cheap would be a blow, and the best scenario would be to sell him to a non-English club.

Koch is a young defender who has the potential to develop further. Spurs have done well in signing starlets such as Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth in recent seasons.

Sanchez has been decent in this campaign while Foyth has received a lot of playing time due to injuries to our first-choice centre-backs.
