Spurs transfer news: Toby Alderweireld open to rejoining Ajax in the future
Toby Alderweireld consoled some of the Ajax players after our dramatic 3-2 win in the Champions League semi-final in Amsterdam.
Lucas Moura scored the winner in the fifth minute of stoppage time and the result took us to the finals where we face Liverpool.
The ex-Ajax star spoke after the game to Voetbal International (h/t Football.london) and claimed he found it tough eliminating his former side in this manner:
“Well, it sounds crazy, but I’m especially happy that this day is over.
“I am not excited about it here, it really hurts me to eliminate Ajax like that. It is a very double feeling.
“I am so grateful for the welcome here at the Johan Cruijff Arena.”
The Belgian highlighted how Luis Suarez had been treated by the Liverpool fans on Tuesday but claimed that the Ajax supporters provided a great reaction to Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and himself.
Alderweireld remembers great times at Ajax
The Tottenham star is out of a contract at the end of the next season, and Football.london reports that he has a £25million release clause in his current deal.
The report claims that Alderweireld has been linked with a move to Ajax in the future, and the defender was contemplating the transfer:
“I don’t want to make too popular statements, but it is certainly 100 percent in my head.
“I have had wonderful times here with three championships, but also lows. But my family was happy here too.”
The Belgian did pretty well in the second half on Wednesday and needs to be at his best when we play Liverpool.
The Reds might have beaten us twice in the Premier League this season, but form goes out of the window when it comes to cup finals.
