Spurs transfer news: Nicolo Zaniolo wants to stay in the Serie A with AS Roma
AS Roma’s teenage sensation Nicolo Zaniolo has been linked with Tottenham, according to Calciomercato.
The 19-year-old Italian attacker has been one of the bright sparks for the Serie A side this season, and Spurs were interested in a €50m move for Zaniolo, according to the Metro.
The attacker has scored six goals and provided a couple of assists for the Rome side this season. Zaniolo also represented the national side this season in Italy’s Euro 2020 qualifiers.
The 19-year-old spoke at the forum organised by Corriere dello Sport and wanted to remain at the Italian club (h/t Calciomercato):
“I still have another four years left of my contract, I see myself here in the future.”
The youngster added that he was pleased with being linked to other clubs but wanted to sign a new deal with Roma:
“Naturally receiving interest from other clubs is pleasing, but I am ready to sign the renewal because I am happy here. I would be happy to stay.”
AS Roma aren’t guaranteed Champions League football as they are three points behind fourth-placed Atalanta with two games of the campaign to go.
Zaniolo played in the 2-0 win over Juventus in their previous game, and need to win both their remaining games to have any chance of finishing in the top four.
Spurs need to spend in the summer window
Zaniolo could have been a great addition to the side given his age and potential, however, Spurs need to bring in some fresh faces ahead of the next season.
Mauricio Pochettino has worked miracles for the side, leading us to the Champions League final, and we are more than capable of beating Liverpool on June 1.

There are some injury concerns for Spurs with Jan Vertonghen, Harry Kane and Harry Winks on the treatment table, and hopefully, we have a strong XI available at the Wanda Metropolitano.
